If you had asked me a few years back, before I started working at PLAYXPERT to put my thoughts on paper about why I enjoy my job I probably would have stared blankly for some time before deciding that I didn’t have much to say. PLAYXPERT for me is a life experience unlike any other. It’s work and fun at the same time. A strange concept isn’t it?
Please hear me out as there actually are legitimate reasons why I love my job. Coincidentally, these are the same reasons that make us a great partner for our clients.
The top reason I love my job is that we have an awesome team, if I do say so myself. A normal day around our office is peppered with $2 words and “your mom” jokes alike. It may sound funny but in the context of the high-velocity environment in which we live, the ability to cut loose and offer good-natured ribbing among coworkers is invaluable.
And with these great people, great technology-oriented conversation (one might even say geeky) is typical. On a daily basis I get to discuss and work with the things I have an interest in, from all aspects of electronics to video games. I get to do the same things I do for fun (play with gadgets, iPhone apps, and great games) for a paycheck which is, frankly, amazing!
I love the challenge of developing new, cutting-edge software. Every day I have a different problem to solve. The problems aren’t always super complex nor are they too simple that I get bored. I have a great group of teammates for support, and an atmosphere in which I can grow and develop. I can say authoritatively that this is not the norm in the workplace.
Finally, I love the atmosphere that we work in. For me, it’s the perfect mix of professionalism and irreverence. We have a collective passion for producing results that we’re proud of, and having a blast while we do it. While it may not be for everyone, this mixture is crucial to create the atmosphere we have. And I love it.
Custom software development is challenging and is certainly not for everyone. That’s why I have a job. And I love it.
