Sandpoint Food Review - Good Food Equals Happy Devs
December 27, 2011

PLAYXPERT is located smack dab in the heart of downtown Sandpoint. This is a blessing and a curse… Why? LUNCH! That’s why! And I’m currently on a diet at the time of writing this, AHHH! Our office is located within a short walk to basically every good restaurant in town. I’ll touch on a couple lunch favorites so your tum will be in good hands if you ever find yourself at the PLAYXPERT offices.

Located just south of our office is Spuds. These guys make awesome food with some great fresh and natural ingredients. They sell a variety of sandwiches and delicious soups along with some more creative daily specials. Their main pull comes in the form of their sauces, one in particular, habenero-honey-cilantro mayo. Fellow co-worker Justin Landis and I were so obsessed with this sauce for a while we would just purchase rolls and containers of sauce and go to town. I’m shaking a little thinking about it. RECOMMENDED: Capistrano sandwich w/extra sauce.

Next on the block is Joe’s Philly Cheesesteaks. This place makes some awesome chicken and steak philly sandwiches. They also make some of the biggest burgers in town which for the price can’t be beat! Oh and if you want to be really unkind to your gastrointestinal tract tempt fate and go for the deep fried hot dog, aye dios mio! To wash it all down, Joe’s even sells real Mexican coke in the bottle, +1 real sugar! RECOMMENDED: Cheesesteak hoagie w/ pepperjack & cheese whiz.

My main haunt on Fridays is a little place called Pie Hut. A short five minute walk and you will be in pie heaven. These guys hand make about a million different types of pie. If Sandpoint was Twin Peaks this place would be the Double R Diner. The hut also has some of the best clam chowder I have ever consumed and a cup is the size of a bowl at most places. They also share building space with a rad antique shop, just in case you get bargain fever post meal! RECOMMENDED: Any sandwich, clam chowder and crème brulee.

It’s now time for my last eatery, the restaurant that has probably added 20lbs of joy to my gut and the culmination of all things good. My blogs Swan song. Joel’s! Joel’s is Sandpoint’s resident family owned taqueria. They make all your standard Mexican fare but they make it damn well! They craft gigantic burritos and have a ton of different variations, one even includes French fries… this is Idaho after all. Oddly enough that burrito is called the California burrito. This place has a ton of good fish offerings as well as a vegetarian menu! Joel and his family are incredibly nice so there’s really no reason not to drop all of your hard earned money at this place.  RECOMMENDED: Mahi mahi tacos, pozole and joel’s jalapeno poppers.

I think I’ve nailed down part of the reason why we make such baller software. It’s got something to do with the food, I’m definitely on to something here. Happy stomachs equal happy devs!
